The WARP Summit Becomes a Benchmark for Global Peace Summit

On November 19, the Mini World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit, was held in Kandy, major city in Sri Lanka located in the Central Province. Co-hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization registered in UNECOSOC and Sri Subodharama International Buddhist Center, over 300 people including religious representatives, teachers and students participated in the event.

Rev. Wattegama, the host of the event, said, “It was very impressed for me to see the event of the WARP Summit in South Korea where 2,500 people of 140 countries from various sectors including religious leaders get together in the same place. I hope to introduce how our Buddhist society should cooperate to make peace for the world and society. In the teaching of Buddha, all human beings are equal and same. However, unfortunately, the recent world lost peace. We are same person who breathe same air and are shed by same sunlight. Achieving peace is depending on our action and role on each position.”

Ms. Su kyoung Kim, director of HWPL West Busan branch, said that 218 WARP Offices in 128 countries including Colombo and Kandy of Sri Lanka is now established and develop understanding that leads to peace. There are no people in our world who aren’t related to peace and security. Let us become messengers of peace who can leave a legacy of peace to next generations, not conflict and pain. The WARP Summit Becomes a Benchmark for Global Peace Summit

The participants who came from Colombo, Kandy, and other cities of Sri Lanka and attended WARP Summit have arranged peace programs such as Peace Walk and Legislate Peace Campaign which are a global peace advocacy movement aiming to bring all wars to an end by establishing an enforceable law, and Religious Youth Peace Camp to engage youth in dialogue and conflict transformation activities based on inter-religious and inter-cultural learning. On 22nd, Religious peace camp was also held as follow-up event. In the meeting, 24 religious leaders from Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity promised the enactment of making peace community to advance peace activity such as Religion-youth peace camp and peace education in school of each congregation to communicate with youth.

The WARP Summit and its annual commemoration by HWPL is an international peace summit held in Republic of Korea in every September since 2014. This year, with the theme ‘Collaborative Governance for the establishment of sustainable peace’, the summit advocated all participating global representatives to collectively take the role of peace building.
