Runner Group chairman gets president’s award for industrial development

Runner Group Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan was rewarded ‘President’s Award for Industrial Development’ as recognition to his contributions to the national economy in industrial sector. He received the trophy and certificate in industrial category on behalf of Runner Automobiles Limited from President Md. Abdul Hamid at a programme at Osmany Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on 22 May. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu presided over the programme.
Runner Group Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan has been making contributions to the national economy by manufacturing motorcycles locally and thus reducing import dependency and creating employment in the country. Besides meeting the domestic demand, Runner Automobiles Ltd has started exporting ‘Made in Bangladesh’ tagged two-wheelers to Nepal. Industries Ministry on February 8, 2018 published the list of the nominees for the ‘President’s Award for Industrial Development’. The award is being rewarded in six categories this year. The government accords this award to the entrepreneurs as recognition to their role in industrial development in order to create inspiration among them and also to encourage innovations.
Hafizur Rahman Khan is President of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB), a platform of the country’s entrepreneurs.He is also leading the Motorcycle Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh as its president. In an instant reaction after receiving the award, Hafizur Rahman Khan said, one the country was totally dependent on imported two-wheelers spending a huge amount of foreign exchange. Runner Automobiles Ltd and some other local companies now have grabbed a major 25 percent share in domestic motorbike market by manufacturing motorcycles locally. A number of foreign brands are going to start manufacturing bikes in Bangladesh soon. Besides, some companies have started trial assembling here. With this, the local motorcycle industry is gradually emerging as a strong manufacturing sector in the country, he added. The duty benefit offered by the government in present budget for manufacturing bikes locally has inspired entrepreneurs in this industry to start production of two-wheelers here, he further said. “I believe, Bangladesh would soon turn into a manufacturing hub of motorcycles in the near future with the sincere effort of the manufacturers including Runner Group,” said the leading entrepreneur in automobiles sector.
Runner Group started journey in 2000 with marketing of motorcycles of Chinese Dyang brand. In 2007, a factory was set up for manufacturing components of bikes. In 2011, the company emerged as a motorcycle manufacturing enterprise with establishment of different production lines including welding, painting, assembling, testing, chassis, fuel tank, main stand, side stand and engine. Runner Group started full-fledged motorcycles manufacturing in 2012. The company has set up a ultra-modern paint shop for painting all parts manufactured in its factory.
